The 5 pieces of watch news you need to know this week

From store openings to timepiece launches, this is the news to watch

To mark a new era in luxury wearable tech, watchmakers Montblanc have revealed their first smartwatch – developed in tandem with tech giants Google. The ‘Summit’ runs on Android, has a Snapdragon 2100 processor concealed within its case and, at £765, it is both one of the most powerful and reasonably priced timepieces on the market.

At the 75th Goodwood Member’s Meeting, IWC Schaffhausen unveiled a completely overhauled line of Ingenieur watches. Reminiscent of the brand’s roots in the 1950s and 1960s, these new pieces will be available in October – and include a 40mm automatic, a titanium-cased Chronograph Sport and a top of the range, 45mm, red gold Perpetual Calendar.

Following the success of their first Connected timepiece, the watchmaker has this week announced a new upgraded version to hit the market this year. Dubbed the Connected Modular 45, the watch has more interchangeable options than its predecessor – ranging from straps, lugs and buckle. The first watch tripled its expected launch sales figures – so Tag expect this step up to sell over 150,000 units.

Opened by CEO, Mr Guadalupe, Hublot have cut the ribbon on their new boutique at Harrods. The space, new for 2017, explores the brand’s philosophy of pioneering luxury innovation and the ‘Art of Fusion’, which is demonstrated in the brand’s interior choices such as the dynamic approach to combining unexpected materials. Black ash wood, grey alcantara and serigraph mirrors make this well worth a visit.

The latest addition to the Clifton collection, the Manual 1830 comes equipped with exclusive Twinspir technology – which improves accuracy using 2 layers of silicon and an inertia-type balance wheel. This all comes packed into a rose gold case with bridges featuring “Côtes de Genève” decor, circular-grained finished plate, blued steel screws, and specific Baume & Mercier engravings.,
