Last Friday, in glorious weather, Gentleman’s Journal headed to the Isle of Wight for a long lunch at The Hut during Panerai Classic Week.
Now in its twelfth year, it’s an event that marks the only British stage of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge, the leading international circuit for classic and vintage yachts.

This year, we made it the very special venue for a Gentleman’s Journal long lunch, in partnership with Panerai. The day began with our guests being whisked across the water to Cowes in an Aston Martin Quintessence yacht & Scorpion ribs, where they could take in all the action of the regatta and explore the new collection and try on the Panerai watches on display.
Among the crowd were guests such as racing driver Max Chilton, Sir Plus founder Henry Hales, model Toby Huntington-Whiteley and our very own Editor, Joseph Bullmore.

The 60-knot trip was followed by a visit to The Hut, the celebrated beachside restaurant boasting unparalleled views of Colwell Bay. There, our guests were met by owners George Adams and Charlie Kearns before enjoying the inaugural Gentleman’s Journal Long Lunch.

On the menu was some of the finest food on the island. From a starter of beef carpaccio, crispy kale and Grana Padano, to a main course of pan-fried cod with crayfish and herb risotto, the menu bowed out with a nod to the seaside — and a fitting dessert of ice cream cones.

With great company, delectable food and some of the most spectacular sailing to watch in the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge, it was a thoroughly British seaside day out enjoyed by all.
