How to get hair like David Beckham

No one has had as illustrative a hair journey as David Beckham, but he's found the style for him. Here we guide you on how to get his short scissored textured crop

David Beckham's hair journey is one to be studied. Since the Nineties, he's had more hair styles than you can wave a comb at. He's done the mohawk. He's tried the bleach blonde thing. He encouraged a thousand young guys to get buzzcuts (his son Romeo included, who now sports it better than Beckham Snr). You name it, Becks has tried it.

Now, however, 49-year-old David Beckham seems to have found a style that works well for him. Seen at Wimbledon this summer, Becks showed off a new short scissored textured crop. Neat and tidy, it's the sort of style that Beckham, who has multiple business ventures on the go (the face of Bang & Olufsen and Stella Artois, manager of Miami FC, his own sunglasses brand, etc), can manage with little effort each morning and still look damn good.

Beckham's hair is a style that's suited best to straight to wavy hair, and takes little to no maintenance once the initial cut has been done. We asked Joe Mills, barber to the stars and founder of Woolf King's Cross, to tell us exactly what you need to ask for to get it right.

"This haircut works on almost all hair types, the only exception being very curly or textured hair," Mills tells us. "Ask the hairstylist or barber for a short scissor cut on the back and sides, with the top left around an inch to an inch longer."

"Cut and add texture to it - this allows the hair to not sit too flat to the head and to give you a bit of movement through the top," Mills continues.

"Styling wise this is as low maintenance as it gets," Mills says. "After shampooing and conditioning, for fine hair use a few pumps of sea salt spray to add volume and texture. If you have thicker hair use a texture spray to give it some control and definition. Blast dry with a hairdryer and use the airflow to push the front up a little."

"After it’s dry, add a little matte styling paste or clay, and work the product through your hair bringing the top forward and pushing the front up a little. Don’t flatten the hair as you will want to have a little bit of natural texture moving through it, to achieve Beckham's hair style."
