The Diary: Gentleman's Journal x Ineos Christmas party at The Grenadier
Spirits were high as Gentleman's Journal partnered with our friends at Ineos for a festive takeover of The Grenadier
The terrace at Hôtel du Cap. The entirety of Mark’s Club. The final ever bash at the Old Annabel's. Gentleman’s Journal has hosted parties at an embarrassingly smart array of locations over the years. But turns out nothing brings the good times quite like a pub. Not that this was just any old pub, of course. The Grenadier, hidden away down a mews in the Belgravia borderlands, is a pretty special spot (it inspired an entire car empire, for one thing.) And it looked especially lovely last night, as Gentleman’s Journal and our friends at Ineos — whose famous Grenadier four-by-four was first sketched on a £5 note in this namesake tavern — took over the place in its entirety to throw a Christmas party for the ages.
Cloistered by two grand, jet-black Ineos Grenadiers, the mews flickered and glowed thanks to a giant, roaring fire pit on its cobbles. Around it, guests huddled with mulled wine, toasted marshmallows, and what felt like about 10,000 pints of beer. (The Guinness was all gone by 6pm.) Things felt particularly festive when a quintet of beaming carol singers emerged on the pub’s front steps, to lead a rousing sing-a-long amongst the red-cheeked punters. And that’s before the miniature mince pies made an appearance.
Guests included Joe Locke, David Gandy, Jason Patel, Francis Bourgeois and Jim Chapman, as well as many old friends of the magazine from over the years. All in all, a riotous success. Who needs Cap d’Antibes when you’ve got the London Riviera?
