The horses to watch this racing season
Gentleman's Journal reveal our hotly-tipped horses for 2017
With only one win under his saddle, Cracksman may seem like a risky tip. But, trained by John Gosden, and with such a storming performance at Newmarket last October, he is a strong candidate for the Derby. He will start the season at Epsom later this month – and is one to watch.
Another John Gosden horse, he is twice as successful as Cracksman – just for running, and winning, twice rather than once. A likely candidate for the Fillie’s Derby – also known as The Oaks – Frankie Dettori has twice ridden Coronet to victory, in Newmarket and Leicester alike.
A son of Frankel, Eminent leads the charge of the famed horses illustrious offspring. The second foal bred by Premier Bloodstock, Eminent is bred on the same cross as Hugo Palmer’s dual 7f winner Majoris. After winning at Newmarket last September, Eminent now holds entries into the Group One 2,000 Guineas and Group 3 Craven Stakes.
A Turkish horse, Crimean Tatar is a 4-year-old colt who has a most impressive debut last june when he won at Newmarket. He looks set to rank highly and stay at the top of his game in 2017 – thanks mostly to trainer Hugo Palmer.
The beautifully bred 3 year old colt is set to make giant strides this year, and has been trained by renowned trainer Roger Varian. UAE King comes from a bloodline of winners (namely Frankel), and is half-brother to champion classic winner Dubawi in addition to Group 2 winner Emirates Queen and Princess Nada. He traces back to Derby winner High Rise.
