Land Rover Defender gets £80,000 reboot

LandRoverDefender - TGJ.01

It is no secret that The Gentleman’s Journal is a big fan of The Land Rover Defender. From featuring on our list of the 3 Best Off-Roaders to its own feature detailing our dismay at its plans for discontinuation; its heritage, Britishness, style and ongoing legacy cannot be understated.

Despite its relatively unchanged exterior appearance, The Land Rover Defender’s ability for transformation knows no bounds. From WW2, to the English countryside all the way to Hollywood (it has been featured in James Bond Skyfall and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider), there seems to be no identity that this car isn’t willing to take on. And now, a wealthy farmer, who wishes to remain anonymous, has transformed this iconic 4×4 once again.

Though there are existing models with stereo systems and heated leather seats, the Carisma Defender D1, a transformation of The Land Rover Defender, takes automotive interior design to a whole new level.

The classic off-roader from the outside, the interior of this car has had an £80,000 reboot by Carisma Auto Design, a car customising company in Essex who specialise in Land Rover Defender conversions. So what have they done to warrant this impressive spending? Well, just some of the added features include a drinks cabinet with lead crystal glassware, adjustable mood lighting, foldaway tables, a fridge, wifi, Bluetooth, a Bang & Olufsen sound system and Windows 8 computers. What’s more, the whole interior was customised in white Connolly hide with subtle black piping in the seats, black carpet and further detailing on the ceiling and side panels using matching quilted hide.

Whether you love or hate this transformation, it is clear to see that our national love for the iconic Land Rover Defender is far from over.
