For most of us, whether or not we wear shoes inside our homes is a habit ingrained at childhood. Perhaps you were a shoes off the second you’re inside family? Perhaps you had a neat row of slippers lined up in the your porch waiting to welcome you home? Or perhaps shoes inside the house were just fine in your family home.
All are, of course, completely valid – when you’re actually leaving the house to go to work. But in these strange times, where our dining tables have become our desks and our cats are our colleagues, new measures must be put in place to guarantee productivity and professionalism. Starting with your footwear.
It may sound odd but, just as wearing trousers and a shirt puts you in the working mindset, so too will slipping on a proper pair of shoes. Now we’re not saying you should start fiddling around with stiff Oxfords or lace-up brogues. Good loafers, however, are as easy and comfortable as your favourite slippers but will make you feel put together – essential if you’re going to nail that all-important Zoom presentation.
There is also, of course, the practical consideration of hard floors in your home. A well-constructed pair of shoes will support your arches and cushion your feet in a way that slippers, as comfortable as you might think they are, simply cannot. And, if you’re a parent, you’ll only step on an errant piece of Lego once before you realise the benefit of hard soles.

If your shoe collection is comprised solely of black and brown options, then your work from home wardrobe is the perfect place to experiment with a little colour.
