Master work-from-home footwear with Crockett & Jones
You wouldn’t go bare foot in the office, after all, would you?
For most of us, whether or not we wear shoes inside our homes is a habit ingrained at childhood. Perhaps you were a shoes off the second you’re inside family? Perhaps you had a neat row of slippers lined up in the your porch waiting to welcome you home? Or perhaps shoes inside the house were just fine in your family home.
All are, of course, completely valid – when you’re actually leaving the house to go to work. But in these strange times, where our dining tables have become our desks and our cats are our colleagues, new measures must be put in place to guarantee productivity and professionalism. Starting with your footwear.
It may sound odd but, just as wearing trousers and a shirt puts you in the working mindset, so too will slipping on a proper pair of shoes. Now we’re not saying you should start fiddling around with stiff Oxfords or lace-up brogues. Good loafers, however, are as easy and comfortable as your favourite slippers but will make you feel put together – essential if you’re going to nail that all-important Zoom presentation.
There is also, of course, the practical consideration of hard floors in your home. A well-constructed pair of shoes will support your arches and cushion your feet in a way that slippers, as comfortable as you might think they are, simply cannot. And, if you’re a parent, you’ll only step on an errant piece of Lego once before you realise the benefit of hard soles.
So to the shopping. When it comes to good loafers, British brand Crockett & Jones make some of the finest. Here are our favourite work from home styles…
Slip-on the Selby
One of Crockett & Jones’ newest designs, the Selby in Chestnut Burnished Calf leather was introduced for Spring/Summer ’20, meaning it will still look fresh after lockdown is over. The crossed leather straps – or butterfly design – give the Selby a style that is simultaneously sportier and more intricate than its counterparts making it ideal for both formal and smart casual looks. Wear with chinos now and a suit when you’re back in the office.

Keep it casual with the Cavendish
There’s something intrinsically fun and playful about a tassel loafer and Crockett & Jones’ Cavendish design is no different. Available in a wide variety of hues and materials, our favourite is undoubtedly the Polo Brown Calf Suede – a versatile shade somewhere between tan and chocolate that can be dressed up or down at whim. Based on the brand’s popular last 325, it features a medium round toe and roomy front for supreme comfort.

Try out colour with the Camden
If your shoe collection is comprised solely of black and brown options, then your work from home wardrobe is the perfect place to experiment with a little colour. Ease yourself in with Crockett & Jones’ Camden loafer in Ocean Blue suede. The subtle stitching on the upper contrasts perfectly with the deep navy shade of this minimalist loafer and, after a few days of wear, we’re sure you’ll agree they’re as versatile as any shoe you’ve ever owned.

Choose comfort with the Kensington
Another new addition to Crockett & Jones’ Spring/Summer ’20 collection, the Kensington is a loafer made to keep you cool and comfortable on even the warmest days. Crafted in woven tan leather, this clean, uncompromised Albert slipper-style shoe is an ideal breathable daytime option suited to both social and business occasions (even if they are only via video link). Finished with the brand’s Goodyear-welted City rubber sole, they’ll also become your go-to for dashing between appointments when meetings are back on the agenda.
