In 2017, Omega, the watchmaker with ties to the Olympics, Neil Armstrong and the James Bond franchise, launched its Speedmaster 38 mm line, an elegant tribute to the revered chronograph, one made with simplicity and elegant proportions as the focal points. In April of this year, the brand expanded the range, offering eight options in either gold (a pair in 18k Sedna gold; a further two in 18k Moonshine gold) or steel, with each one featuring a statement bezel that’s studded with 52 diamonds, and a polished crown that’s been set with the gemstone.
Further design strokes on each watch include a trio of diamond-ringed, oval-shaped subdials – what one might interpret as a paean to the venture’s historic De Ville models – and there’s a vertical date window at six. Rather notably, the Sedna gold options arrive with a brown PVD dial (one has a polished and brushed bracelet of the same precious metal; the other is done out in a brown leather strap), and the hour and minute hands are lumed and radiate in green. The Moonshine gold counterparts are distinguished for their dial in green PVD.
For those looking for designs that are toned down just a touch, there are four stainless-steel editions (also with either green or brown dials), which can be affixed to the wrist with Omega’s comfort release adjust system or a leather strap that matches the dial.
On the reverse side, all sparkling options have a screw-in caseback that’s been created with a seahorse medallion, a motif historically tied to the Speedmaster line, and the Omega Co-Axial Calibre 3330 – a chronometer – powers the piece.
These introductions add to a slew of already popular Speedmaster 38 mm watches – there’s a stainless-steel option with black dial (below); another stainless-steel version, but with 18k yellow-gold, and a green leather strap; and the ‘Cappuccino’ in stainless steel and 18k Sedna gold with a taupe-brown leather strap – but inject more of a statement-making slant.
When talking about the glitzy design, Omega says, ‘From the start, the goal was to turn heads, by emphasising the luxury effect, with fully polished cases and sparkling diamond-paved bezels’.
