It’s almost that time of the year again – where men reach for the razor as October comes to an end, and then spend the entire month of November trying, with all their might, to squeeze an enviable moustache from their upper lip. Some will succeed, some will fail, but all will draw attention to the hairy subject of men’s health – and that can only be a good thing.
This year, luxury Swiss watchmaker Oris are throwing their ‘taches into the ring with both a partnership with The Nomad Barber and the release of a special edition of their iconic Diver Sixty-Five. The watch’s applied indices and hands, ended with rose gold plating over a rich, black dial, tie the watch to the colour scheme of the charity. But, bar these quirks, a strap embossed with the Movember logo, and the name of the charity engraved onto the caseback, the rest of the watch is business as usual: a 40mm case, Swiss automatic movement and water resistance of 100 metres.
But Oris aren’t stopping at the watch. During Movember, the watchmaker will also host a series of fundraising events across European cities, including our very own London. Here, in the capital, Oris have partnered with The Nomad Barber to promote the charity.
Award-winning – and with years of hair-cutting experience under his belt – Miguel Gutierrez is known for his YouTube web series in which he travels the globe, and conducts shaves and haircuts. Now, the famed barber is turning his hand – and the razor it holds – to the cause of Movember by getting involved with the ‘Oris Shave Down’, which marks the beginning of the month.
On the 1st November, The Nomad Barber, located in Shoreditch will be exclusively open for all customers that have pre-booked an appointment and are taking part in fundraising for Movember; Oris will offer free wet shaves to all participants on this day only.
“As a barber it’s so invigorating knowing you’re providing someone with a service that ultimately lends itself to a much greater cause,” says Gutierrez of the event. “It’s an absolute honour to be working with Oris for Movember and I’m excited to watch gentlemen go bare faced on the 1st November for such a great cause.”
And, not only will you be smooth-faced just in time for the big month of growth – those taking part in the wet shave will also be entered into a prize draw to win the Oris Special Edition Movember Diver Sixty-Five. Worth £1,800, the participant to raise the most money for the charity through a legitimate funding source will win the watch – with the winner will be announced on 1st December.
For those you not lucky enough to win the watch, the Movember Diver Sixty-Five special edition will be also available for purchase in participating retailers – and a percentage of proceeds from sales of each watch will be donated to Movember.
