Enzo Ferrari called it “the most beautiful car ever made” — and we’re inclined to agree. Just take a look at this 1962 Jaguar E-Type. Its long sweeping bonnet and small, simple grille afford the car one of the most iconic silhouettes in the motoring world; a design every British gentleman should recognise instantly.
This ‘Flat Floor’ version, up for auction through Bonham’s, was made in the second year the E-Type was in production, and is considered one of the purest designs to have ever rolled off Jaguar’s production line.
This specific car has kept its original colour scheme and, with a standout red leather interior, you’ll want to keep the top down all year long to show it off.
And, if you needed any further convincing of this car’s style and pedigree, you must only look to a list of previous owners. From Frank Sinatra and Brigitte Bardot to George Best and Gentleman’s Journal style icon Steve McQueen, it’s a veritable who’s-who of social, sporting and singing icons.
Of course, the most recent E-Type to take the world by storm whisked the Duke and Duchess from Windsor Castle to their wedding reception at Frogmore House. This was, admittedly, a zero-emissions model and not the throaty, raw-engined version you see here, but it still didn’t hurt to get a royal stamp of approval.
And, even though you’ll have to put petrol into this E-Type, rather than plugging it in, one of the major selling points of this model is the impeccable condition it’s in. So whether you’re driving off into the sunset with a princess in the passenger seat, or just popping to the shops, you can be sure that this car will look just as royally good as it has for the past 50 years for decades to come…
