Tod's bets big on the Art of Craftsmanship

The Art of Craftsmanship - A Project by Venetian Masters - Tod's celebrates Italian craftsmanship and Italian Lifestyle

Since its inception, Italian label Tod’s has embodied a lifestyle that merges timeless elegance with savoir-faire and supreme artisanal quality. Every object is made following the meticulous techniques of fine Italian craftsmanship using a series of heritage processes. The icons of the brand, the Gommino shoe and the Di bag, are exemplary of Tod's commitment to skill, perfection and precision.

And to build on that, Tod's held a short exhibition in Venice. The Art of Craftsmanship - A Project by Venetian Masters, opened on the eve of the Venice Biennial last week, and showed the work of glassblower Roberto Beltrami, goldbeater Marino Menegazzo, rowlock makers Saverio Pastor and Piero Dri, and glass masters Matteo Seguso and Lucio Bubacco. Each of them presented art work inspired by the Gommino and the brand's codes, creating unique and original pieces, such as the iconic shoe cut from gold leaf (yep, really).

And while the exhibition has ended, Tod's commitment to craft doesn't end there. In line with the exhibition Tod's, which is headed up by its new creative director Matteo Tamburini, has dropped a limited edition line of products, which exemplify the brand's commitment to craft. Inspired by the the art of craftsmanship that the exhibition was centred around, Tod's Gommino driving shoes now arrive in a special edition, with exclusive colours and supreme leather.

Crafted in a calfskin leather with a particularly soft and silky hand, the handcrafted style features the classic penny bar, exposed stitching, the stamped Tod's monogram and the distinctive rubber pebble outsole. It comes in a rust red and teal. Meanwhile a calfskin shopping tote, which is being peddled as unisex, is handstitched and comes in both those aforementioned colours.

When it comes to craftsmanship, no brand is really topping Tod's. And this is your reminder. Shop the collection at tods.com
